Thailand Details :

Known as the “the land of smiles,” Thailand is the gateway of Southeast Asia. This country draws more visitors than any other country in Southeast Asia thanks to an irresistible combination of breathtaking natural beauty, inspiring temples, renowned hospitality, robust cuisine, and ruins of fascinating ancient kingdoms. From the mountains of Mae Hong Son to the verdant limestone islands of the Andaman Sea, from the pulse-pounding dance clubs of Bangkok to tranquil villages along the Mekong River, Thailand offers something for everyone. A diverse culture awaits with influences from China and Burma. Buddhism, which places a high value on hospitality and kindness, is the dominant religion, and you are likely to see orange-robed monks and statues of Buddha throughout the country. Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia never to have been colonized by a European power. You’ll most likely have an opportunity to see different parts of the country as extended Thai families enjoy visiting each other. And while you’ll learn Thai, English is a required subject in schools, so there will be plenty of people who speak your language. Study abroad in Thailand and discover and exotic and exciting culture of age-old traditions. You’ll experience the engaging warmth of the Thai people who will want to learn about you and life in the U.S.

18+ Community Service Semester :

Have you ever wanted to work with animals at a zoo, teach English and freshwater environment classes to youth, or assist with children in an orphanage? This Thailand program offers these options, as well as a variety of other community development projects. Pas participants have worked as assistants at rural hospitals and marine research facilities, helped the blind and mentally handicapped, and worked to empower women. The programs available will depend on the program cycle. Upon arrival in Bangkok, you’ll have an orientation where you’ll receive Thai language and cultural instructions. Throughout your program, there will be many opportunities for you to meet with fellow AFS Participants, such as mid-stay orientation and the end-of-stay section. During you program, you may be housed in a doormitory, with a host family, or through the community service organization.

18+ Community Service Education Option :

After an arrival orientation in Bangkok, you will travel to your host chapter to begin volunteering. You might teach English, assist Thai teachers in a rural primary or secondary school, help organize ESL camps, or set up a library or other resource center. In addition, you might be able to help with agricultural or social service programs, if time permits. You’ll live with a host family in or near the town where the service project is located.
