4/5/2007 - YES Program Scholarships 2007
AFS India has finalized the selection of candidates going on full scholarships to USA for one year under the School Program Abroad during August 2007 to June 2008. By August 2007 a total of 40 Indian students will be going to USA on this full scholarship.
One thousand pre applications were distributed among different schools in 5 local chapters in almost two weeks during mid October 2006 just before the Diwali festivities. The deadline to submit the pre application was until 15th November.
During the screening of all pre applications presented, 42 volunteers participated among all Local Chapters and pre selected 171 candidates from 46 schools; 88% of the schools that are represented in the 28% of the total pre applications submitted. These pre selected candidates received the main application to be filled in within 15 days for a new screening. 26 Volunteers participated in this activity and selected 99 candidates for the personal Interview.
From the total pre selected candidates, 75% of them filled in the main application and submitted it on time; out of these candidates, 77% of them were selected for the personal interview.
Before the Panel Interview activity, volunteers had to do the candidates’ home visits and complete their financial forms in order to have complete main applications before the actual personal interview would take place.
By end December, once the interviews were finalized in all Local Chapters, a National List of qualifying candidates was created in the National Office for the YES and WORLD Programs. Also, a “Waiting List” was created by ranking 8 qualifying students that could participate in case a selected candidate would withdraw during the preparation stage.
For the national ranking of the students’ “Waiting List”, where added all points gained during the pre selection, selection and interview.
During the first months of 2007, applications were sent to USA for a complete revision and approval.
