Scholarships available for AFS School Program Abroad

It has been defined 5 categories where the last one “E” corresponds to the full fees and no partial scholarships are given. As you can appreciate in Category E for instance, if you want to travel to Latin America, there are 210 slots, which means that you will have a higher probability of been a qualifying selected candidate going to Latin America. Full fees are paid, however only the best selected students among all over India are given the opportunity to travel with AFS.

Looking at the “C” Category, partial scholarships of US$2,200 are given in each region for students with financial needs; for example, a student qualified for Latin America on a “C” Category, will have to cover a total program cost of $4,800.

To grant the scholarships, volunteers in local chapters will do the selection and rank candidates according to their financial background, study performance, personal qualities and any other requirement indicated on the type of scholarship students are applying to. After the final ranking in Local Chapters, some additional partial scholarships will be given by the National Office. AFS India is currently doing fundraising to increase the number of scholarships for the 2008 Cycle.

Students seeking partial and/or full scholarships first will need to apply to AFS by filling in the on line form and following the steps indicated after submitting the application.

1 Europe: Hungary, Norway, Finland, Island, Sweden, Belgium Flanders, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Latvia, Turkey, Portugal, Germany, Spain, France, Belgium French, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia, Russia.

2 English speaking: United States, England, New Zealand, Australia, Canada.

3 Latin America: Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Brasil, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico.

4 Asia: Philippines, China, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand.

5 Africa: Tunisia, Ghana, Egypt, South Africa.

If you are thinking of requesting a full or partial scholarship to go abroad with AFS, you will need to download this form, print & fill it by hand and deliver it along with your Pre Application or Main Application to the nearest AFS Local Chapter.
