Hello Alums

Dear Alum,
Hello, Hope you all are having a wonderful 2012? I know its little odd to hear from us during this time of the year, I have to main things to share with you all.
Firstly, I’m writing this mail to introduce the returnees who are representing you in the board of AFS India.

Nirali Macchar:

Nirali is a morning show producer at Radio Mirchi Ahmedabad. She graduated with B.A. Hons in Media Production. Nirali went on the KL-YES program in 2005. Nirali hopes to be the voice of the returnees in the board and help in solving the problems faced by them.

Shadab Nazmi:

Shadab is a student pursuing is B.A. Hons in Spanish. He likes reading and watching film. He aims to be a journalist in the field of foreign policy. Shadab went on the KL-YES program in 2007. He aims to reach out to the returnees and help in bring up the issues to the board and come up with measures to solve with the consensus of the board.

Darshit Sagar:

Darshit is a visual communication student with an emphasis in Photography. He is doing is B.Sc in Madras Christian College, Chennai. Darshit is an alumnus of the KL-YES program in 2008. Darshit is very much involved in community service projects and reconnecting the YES Alumni in India. Darshit aims to bring a strong communication between the returnees and do more community projects.

Now you have some information about us and this brings us to the second topic.

Global Youth Service Day:

I know many of you have heard about Global Youth Service Day (http://gysd.org/), it is an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes the millions of children and youth who improve their communities each day of the year through service and service-learning. This year Global Youth service Day (GYSD) is from April 20th-22nd, 2012. GYSD is the event all over the world and the only day of service dedicated to children and youth. GYSD is celebrated each year in over 100 countries. Here is the website for more information (http://gysd.org/).

We are really delighted to inform you that AFS Intercultural Programs India has been selected as Global Youth Service Day 2012 country Partner for India and here is our chance to celebrate this day by carrying out a Volunteer projects from April 20-22nd, 2012. Please block the dates in your calendar.

All the Chapters will do a service project and we strongly recommend the participation of all of you Alums in this and make this a BIG EVENT.

Mind you that we will be nominating volunteers/returnees for the AFS awards on their performance and involvement.

If you have any new ideas for any community service or if you want any help from us or any questions please feel free to contact us at any point also you can share it with your chapter head.
